Friends don’t let friends drive AMC-Renaults.

Bad cars are a lifestyle choice we must encourage and respect. If it’s funny, anyway.

That would be the F3N engine... My wild guess would be the distributor or the coil that failed... Fairly common with those... Coil is cheap, distributor can be quite a bit more expensive. Maybe just test the coil first then go with the distributor. Changing the head only is often enough, but not always...

The distributor is turning, didn’t appear to have anything obviously wrong. No spark at the coil. I haven’t found a wiring diagram yet to ensure the coil is getting power and so on, but I naturally suspected the coil might have given up.

Whether it’s turning or not won’t mean anything really... Those things sometimes just decide to stop working and want ot be changed lol. But change the coil first, it’s most likely the reason why you don’t have sparks :)

It appears I’m in luck - the same ignition module was also used for the Jeep Cherokee, so will be *very* available. The reason I remarked that I didn’t think it was the dizzy was that I didn’t see anything more to the distributor than a cap and rotor - didn’t even see a reluctor. If a reluctor and sensor is there and I just missed it, I understand how it might have a whole bunch of problems.

It turned out the Renault’s ignition circuit was out in spots due to a broken connection. All fixed now with no new parts, even.

Yes. They should encourage their friends to drive good American Cars like The Eagle Premiere!
